PACIFIC OCEAN (Aug. 30, 2022) – Sailors participate in a live-fire exercise aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Aug. 30. Sailors are required to participate in a sustainment live-fire every six months to reinforce proper weapons handling proficiency. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), is underway conducting integrated training operations with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in the U.S. 3rd Fleet to prepare for an upcoming deployment.
