U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. James Justen, a Mooresville, North Carolina native and a scout sniper assigned to Weapons Company, 2d Battalion, 2d Marine Regiment, poses for a photo during a reconnaissance and surveillance field exercise on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Oct. 5, 2022. The reconnaissance and surveillance exercise was conducted to prepare teams for the Battle Field Exercise Team Leader Evaluation and increase platform interoperability.
“I joined the Marine Corps in order to seek better opportunities, achieve personal goals and desires,” said Justen. “I’ve always wanted to be a Marine. A challenge I faced early on was transitioning from a mortarman to a scout sniper, but now I am a faithful P.I.G to my sniper platoon and sniper community as a whole, P.I.G. meaning professionally instructed gunman.”
