Members of the New York Naval Militia on duty at New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs headquarters in Latham, New York, marked the 247th Birthday of the United States Navy on October 13, 2002 by posing for a group photo with two goats, the mascot of the Naval Academy. At one time goats were carried on sailing ships for their milk. The New York Naval Militia's 2,700 members serve concurrently in the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Reserves while serving the state of New York.
