Spc. Tyler Watters of the Illinois Army National Guard 445th Chemical Company is awarded the Military Medal of Valor Oct. 14, 2022 at the MidAmerica Readiness Center in Shiloh, Illinois. Watters and two other volunteers helped save the life of a man severely injured in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 55 in Lincoln March 13. “To me, selfless service means that I volunteered to put others above myself," Watters said. "His life matters and the world doesn’t revolve around me or one individual. When things like that happen, someone has to do something. It’s my moral duty to help someone when they need it.” (Illinois National Guard photo by U.S. Army Sgt. Trenton Fouche)
