October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month! This year's theme is, “See Yourself in Cyber”
We all hear about massive data breaches and hackers and it can seem overwhelming, leaving us feeling powerless against it. Cybersecurity does not need to be intimidating or frustrating. There are many ways to keep your data protected and yourselves safe.
SEE YOURSELF IN CYBER! - It's easy to stay safe online and protect our data from digital forms of crime. Here are four things you can do to help improve our cybersecurity efforts, both at work and at home. Practicing cybersecurity is simple to do and effective in combating cyber crime. Be proactive, not reactive. You can greatly increase your cybersecurity online, at work and at home by taking a few simple steps.
• Think Before You Click: Recognize and Report Phishing: If a link looks a little off, think before you click. It could be an attempt to get sensitive information or install malware.
• Update Your Software: Don't delay -- If you see a software update notification, act promptly. Better yet, turn on automatic updates.
• Use Strong Passwords: Use passwords that are long, unique, and randomly generated. Use password managers to generate and remember different, complex passwords for each of your accounts. A passwords manager will encrypt passwords securing them for you!
• Enable Multi-Factor Authentication: You need more than a password to protect your online accounts, and enabling MFA makes you significantly less likely to get hacked.
