A practice round is fired in preparation for testing at the Bird Impact Range at Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee, in 1973. The facility, commonly referred to as the “Chicken Gun,” was used to simulate in-flight bird strikes to aircraft canopies and other materials by launching chicken carcasses at test articles.
