College Students Try Army ROTC with Illinois State Tuition Waiver

Four college students were awarded the Illinois State Tuition Waiver on Oct. 29 at Illinois National Guard headquarters on Camp Lincoln in Springfield, Ill. The state program allows them to try Army ROTC at state universities for one year and have their tuition waived without any military commitment. After one-year of Army ROTC, they can decide to sign an Army contract and continue to pursue an Army commission as an officer in the U.S. Army through ROTC. Or they can walk away having had a year of tuition waived. The program is also available to actively serving Illinois National Guard members, who can use it to extend Illinois National Guard Scholarship eligibility by another year and to pursue a commission as an officer. Eligibility requirements can be found here: https://arotc.illinoisstate.edu/scholarships/tuition-waivers/ or through the Military Science Department at any Illinois state university. Shown are Illinois State University students Jeffery Sharp of Auburn, Ill., and James Toller of Springfield, Ill., along with University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign student Gavin Wilks of Campbell Hill, Ill. and Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville student Carter Waterkotte of Auburn, Ill.
