Maj. Gen. Mike Oates, 10th Mountain Division, and Fort Drum commander, pins a Purple Heart medal to a Soldier of the 10th Mtn. Div.'s 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, who was injured in combat. The 1st BCT deployed to the Kirkuk area of northern Iraq in September of 2007, when they began a 15-month combat tour. Oates, along with 10th Mtn. Div. Command Sgt. Maj. James Redmore, visited with Soldiers throughout the 1st BCT Jan. 24th and 25th, recognizing their efforts and giving them update on the state of the division.
