Maj. Gen. Ben Corell, Adjutant General of the Iowa National Guard, presents the U.S. Army Chief of Staff’s 2021 Deployment Excellence Award (DEA) to Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division “Red Bulls,” during a ceremony at Joint Force Headquarters in Johnston, Iowa, on Nov. 4, 2022. HHC was awarded the DEA in the small deploying unit category. It was only the second time in a decade that a major subordinate command headquarters received a DEA. The Boone-based unit deployed to Kosovo in support of Operation Joint Guardian in 2020-2021 and excelled in four special emphasis areas: mission accomplishment, effective resource management, enhanced deployment readiness and maintaining deployment discipline.
