A U.S. Army Soldier with 95th Chemical Company, 17th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 11th Airborne Division, gets decontaminated while participating in a bilateral chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear mass casualty training event during exercise Keen Sword 23 at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, November 12, 2022. Keen Sword is a biennial training event that exercises the combined capabilities and lethality developed between 3rd MLG, III Marine Expeditionary Force, and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. This bilateral field-training exercise between the U.S. military and JSDF strengthens interoperability and combat readiness of the U.S. Japan Alliance. 3d MLG, based out of Okinawa, Japan, is a forward deployed combat unit that serves as III MEF’s comprehensive logistics and combat service support backbone for operations throughout the Indo-Pacific area of responsibility.
