YOKOSUKA, Japan (Nov. 15, 2022) Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Capt. Mitsuru Takada, deputy chief of staff for operations, commander, fleet submarine force, poses for a photo with Capt. Les Sobol, Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) and Capt. Rafael Facundo, deputy commander and chief of staff, U.S. Naval Forces Japan during Keen Sword Exercise 2023 onboard CFAY. Keen Sword is a joint-bilateral biennial training exercise involving U.S. Forces and the Japan Self-Defense Force designed to help promote peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region by strengthening the U.S.-Japan alliance and enhancing participants interoperability. For more than 75 years, CFAY has provided, maintained, and operated base facilities and services in support of the U.S. 7th Fleet's forward-deployed naval forces, tenant commands, and thousands of military and civilian personnel and their families.
