U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Jack Riley, (Ret.), delivers remarks during his Silver Star pinning ceremony, Nov 11, 2022. On 30 March 1967 near Hill 70 in Quang Tri Province, Cpl Riley’s squad came under fire from enemy mortars and heavy automatic weapons while establishing a night position, followed by a direct assault from a reinforced company that penetrated their defensive perimeter. After all the officers and senior enlisted Marines were killed or wounded, Cpl. Riley took charged and led a counterattack that repulse the enemy.
