A Coast Guard motor lifeboat from Coast Guard Station Chetco River, encounters heavy weather off of Brookings, Ore. The station is located approximately seven miles north of the Oregon-California border and executes missions including maritime environmental protection and law enforcement in addition to rough water rescues. The painting's title refers the motto that rescue swimmers have to go on rescue missions, even if this means they may be risking their lives. In an average year, the Coast Guard responds to 39,700 search and rescue cases and saves 4,300 lives.
