SAN DIEGO (Nov. 16, 2010) – Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) Resident Oral Surgeon Lt. Billy Turley (left) provides a shot of local anesthetic to a patient as Surgical Technician Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Joseph Jones assists prior to performing an extraction of a lower anterior tooth in the NMCSD Oral Surgery Clinic. The NMCSD Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department performs approximately 1,200 procedures a year. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are specialists who treat conditions, defects, injuries, and esthetic aspects of the head, face and neck including the mouth, teeth and the jaw.
