Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Member Sgt. 1st Class Takashi Sugawara, a vehicle maintenance repairer assigned to the 101st Field Artillery Direct Support Battalion, supports Yama Sakura 83 by being an interpreter for the JGSDF at Camp Higashi- Chitose, Japan, Dec. 7, 2022. Sugawara, a native of Sapporo, has been serving in the JGSDF for 19 years. Sugawara states that he has learned English from classes taught in the JGSDF. Sugawara has been to Hawaii and Seattle, with Hawaii being his favorite.
"Every function and coordination between Japanese and the U.S. is a highlight. I learn a lot every day," said Sugawara.
