The Extended Range Cannon Artillery system is a critical component of the U.S. Army’s Modernization Priority of Long Range Precision Fires. ERCA is designed to extend the range of 155mm artillery projectiles to distances not previously achieved. The lead organization for designing ERCA is the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Armaments Center at Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey. The Armaments Center is tasked to assemble more than a dozen ERCA prototypes for an upcoming operational assessment. In the photo, two Integration technicians are installing the XM208 Gun Mount Assembly onto what will resemble the more complete ERCA prototype shown in the background.
