230126-N-XG173-1488 NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO (Jan. 26, 2023) Monty Montgomery, Project Backboard artist, speaks during the Pacific Beacon ribbon cutting ceremony for the unveiling of the Project Backboard basketball court. Montgomery designed and painted the artwork for the project. The ceremony celebrated a culmination of almost two years of collaboration between the Pacific Beacon’s bachelor housing team, The Michaels Organization and Project Backboard to create a unique backdrop for Sailors to enjoy while playing basketball. Project Backboard is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works with communities to renovate public basketball courts with large scale works of site-specific art to strengthen communities, improve park safety, encourage multi-generational play and inspire.
