U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Yaroslav Painter, a petroleum laboratory technician with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Rein.), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, gathers a sample of fuel during a forward arming and refueling point exercise within a combat service support area on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Feb. 8, 2023. A CSSA provides Marines on the ground with food, water, and fuel to support the mission and sustain an area of operations. A FARP extends this capability to include fuel for the 31st MEU’s air combat element. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of USS America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
