Sgt. Andrew Paradis, 210th Engineer Company, 54th Troop Command, New Hampshire Army National Guard, takes a breath after summiting a steep hill enroute to his point during the land navigation portion of the New Hampshire National Guard Best Warrior Competition, Feb. 11, at the Edward Cross Training Complex in Pembroke, N.H.
“It feels good, now that I’m at the top,” said Paradis.
Competitors had 90 minutes to plot, move to, locate five points on the snow-covered, wooded course amidst winding ravines. This was the first time Paradis navigated a course that was not self-correcting, meaning that the points did not post grid coordinates, so competitors could not verify their location.
“So far I think I’ve got two out of my three points, but I don’t know for sure,” said Paradis. “I just gotta trust my gut and do what I can to take advantage of terrain features.”
