U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 1/4, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, utilize combat rubber raiding crafts to transit to Kin Blue Beach, Okinawa, during a bilateral amphibious assault with soldiers from the 1st Amphibious Rapid Deployment Regiment, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, in the Pacific Ocean, March 8, 2023. The bilateral amphibious assault exercise allowed Marines and JGSDF soldiers to simultaneously secure austere terrain during Iron Fist 23. Iron Fist is an annual bi-lateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
