An ejected brass casing leaves a trail of smoke as Master-at-Arms Seaman Naudhya Shepherd fires blank rounds from an M4 rifle during an active shooter training exercise at Building 452 at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD) on Feb. 7. Shepherd played the active shooter “killed” in the exercise. Two other Navy personnel also depicted roles, one as a “gate runner” strapped with a suicide vest packed with explosives, and the second a disgruntled worker, according to Deja Kvaley, NSWC PHD’s emergency management and Continuity of Operations coordinator.
