U.S. Marine Corps Col. Richard Martin, the Camp Hansen Commander, accepts the key to the main gate from Okinawa Defense Bureau Director General Isao Ono during the Main Gate Opening Ceremony on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, March 22, 2023. Marine Corps Installations Pacific Commanding General Maj. Gen. Stephen E. Liszewski, Okinawa Defense Bureau Director General Isao Ono, Kin Town Mayor Hajime Nakama and Kin Assembly Chairperson Yoshimitsu Kakazu were present for the opening ceremony. The new gate connects Camp Hansen directly to the Okinawan Expressway. The project, which began June 2020, took approximately three years to finish and is anticipated to reduce base commute times by 15-20 minutes per trip as well as reducing the rush hour traffic for the residents of Kin and others commuting along that route. Martin is a native to Tennessee. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Kira Ducato)
