DPAA Conducts Repatriation Ceremony in Vietnam

U.S. Army Lt. Col. Travis Walter, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) Detachment 2 Commander, and General Nguyễn Bá Thắng, Vietnamese Office for Seeking Missing Persons (VNOSMP), sign transfer requirements before a repatriation ceremony, Da Nang, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, April 10, 2023. The ceremony marked the culmination of the efforts of two recovery teams and one investigative team to recover service members unaccounted for during the Vietnam War. During the ceremony, the honor guard team will escort the potential osseous material for transport to the DPAA Laboratory in Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, Hawaii. Once there, the scientific analysis process will begin. There are currently 1,579 Americans missing from the Vietnam War. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Cole Yardley)
