“I’ve been in the Navy for a little over 17 years, nine of which have been either embedded with or in support of Marine units,” said Petty Officer First Class Marvin Gambito, a hospital corpsman and preventative medicine technician with 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, III Marine Expeditionary Force and Task Force 76/3. “Being here at the MEB is like being home. I believe it’s a familiar feeling that all corpsman who’ve ever served with Marines can relate to.”
“What I like most about Task Force 76/3 is that I get to see a different facet of the military chain of command,” Gambito continued. “As someone who’s used to being 'the man on the ground' it’s both fascinating and humbling seeing how the people above us support us in ways we didn’t even know. It definitely builds upon the Navy and Marine Corps great relationship on a shared commitment to protecting and supporting each other in the face of danger and adversity.”
As the sole preventive medicine technician, Gambito, a native of San Diego, California, supports the Brigade Surgeon in providing medical support to both Marines in garrison and in the field, including administering emergency medical treatment, providing basic medical care, and evacuating wounded personnel if needed. He is also responsible for maintaining the MEB’s medical supplies and equipment, as well as providing technical guidance to other medical personnel on preventive medicine practices.
