A statue of the 55th Rescue Squadron's mascot, Jolly Green, sits on display in front of the squadron building at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, April 26, 2023. The statue represents a tribute to the crew of Jolly 22, which crashed on Jan. 7, 2014 resulting in the loss of Capt. Sean Ruane, Capt. Christopher Stover, Tech. Sgt. Dale Mathews and Staff Sgt. Afton Ponce. The Jolly Green Giant statue along with the green feet have become a universal symbol of the U.S. Air Force rescue community as a way of never forgetting the lives lost in Global War on Terrorism.
