The prairie land that has been part of the ancestral homeland of the Nisqually Indian tribe for as long as ten thousand years, as seen on the 2023 Chief Leschi Honor Walk hosted at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., May 6, 2023. “We acknowledge that Joint Base Lewis-McChord resides on the traditional lands of the Nisqually people,” said Army Col. Phil Lamb, Joint Base Commander for Joint Base Lewis-McChord. “The Nisqually have lived and cared for this land and these waterways since time immemorial. We make this acknowledgement to open a space of recognition, inclusion and respect for our sovereign tribal partners and all indigenous students, families and staff in our community.” (U.S. Army photo by Spc.
