USS Gettysburg (CG 64) gets underway from Naval Station Norfolk after a nine-year Guided Missile Cruiser (CG) Modernization period on February 28, 2023. As Gettysburg neared its end-of-life cycle (roughly 35 years) it was chosen to be part of the newly formed CG/LSD Modernization Program in order to extend her service life by 10 years. MARMC in partnership with BAE Systems-Norfolk navigated dozens of unprecedented challenges from congressional, funding, manning and execution issues to supply and technical compliance hurdles. The team persevered to deliver a fully functional Cruiser back to the Fleet adding to our strike group capabilities around the globe. Currently, Gettysburg is participating in Type Training exercises and will continue to receive support from the MARMC team as she begins her journey back to servicing the Nation.
