KBMT-TV 12News Now out of Beaumont, Texas got an exclusive look at the work the Galveston District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Jefferson County Drainage District No. 7 are doing as part of the Port Arthur Project in Port Arthur, Texas, May 24, 2023. The ongoing project is part of the larger Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay (S2G) Program, which is making improvements upon the existing levee systems in Port Arthur and Freeport, Texas. The existing Port Arthur levee system was built between 1966 and 1983 to provide protection from hurricane storm surge of 14 feet above mean sea level. Utilizing advances in flood modeling and construction techniques, these improvements will enhance the existing Port Arthur storm surge risk reduction system. U.S. Army photo by Trevor Welsh.
