Participants were provided supplemental nutrition bars that were either high-fat and calorie-dense, essential amino acid-enriched, or high-carbohydrate. U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine researchers collaborated with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI), the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and the Combat Feeding Division (CFD) within the US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Soldier Center (DEVCOM-SC) to test nutritional strategies for muscle recovery and repair during cold weather military training.
