Sailors aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) man the rails as the ship returns to Naval Base San Diego following a seven-month deployment to the Indo-Pacific region, June 8, 2023. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of Makin Island and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P.
