An A-10C Thunderbolt II aircraft, assigned to the 354th Fighter Squadron, is undergoing maintenance in a hangar on the flightline at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., June 29, 2023. The A-10C aircraft was known for its iconic weapon, the GAU-8 Avenger 30mm cannon mounted on the nose, designed to fire armor-piercing depleted uranium and high explosive incendiary rounds at low altitudes during strafing runs.
