U.S. Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, board an MV-22B Osprey in preparation for a forward arming and refueling point exercise aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA-6), in the Coral Sea, July 3, 2023. The FARP sustained the 31st MEU’s air combat element within an expeditionary advanced base of operations at Shoalwater Bay Training Area, Australia for surrounding missions abroad and for return to the USS America. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
