Work to lay concrete for the replacement of the vertical landing pad on the airfield at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point continues to progress, July 26, 2023. The project is a part of the more than $100-million runway repair that consists of a series of full-depth replacements and resurfacing of asphalt runways and concrete landing pads with special high-strength, high-temperature mixtures capable of sustaining the repeated heavy impacts and heat from the F-35 vertical landing system.
