A New York Naval Militia member on board Patrol Boat 280 shines a spotlight on a boat that was ignoring U.S. Coast Guard instructions to stop, on July 29, 2023, in the Niagara River near Youngstown, New York, while operating in support of the Coast Guard’s smuggling interdiction effort known as Operation Lake Thunder. The New York Naval Militia, a 3,000-member component of the New York Military Forces, provided two patrol boats and nine personnel, and a mobile command post, to support the mission.
