Active-Duty U.S. Navy Cmdr. Paul Mayo, an optometrist assigned to U.S. Naval Hospital Guam, diagnosed a retinal tear in a Guam community member and referred her for emergency surgery, during Guam Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) at the Calvo Field House at the University of Guam, Aug. 4. Guam Wellness IRT is a joint multicomponent and interagency program with the Department of Defense and the Department of Public Health and Social Services that leverages military contributions and community resources to multiply value and cost savings for participants.
