Fort Drum’s Quarry Pond was once the site of a thriving limestone quarry mine, but it became famous in the early 1900s after an accident of nature uncovered a crystal grotto that was called the “Crystal Cave.” Today it is a popular fishing spot for recreationalists on post, but its history is occasionally told during history tours and staff rides.
