A U.S. Coast Guard and Army student in the Behavioral Health Technician program at the Medical Education and Training Campus conduct a mock counseling session as an instructor evaluates their interaction. The program trains Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps students in the collection and recording of psychosocial and physical data from intake interviews and counseling sessions; assisting patients with activities of daily living; conducting group counseling sessions; the observation of medication side effects and behavioral changes; providing educational presentations to patients on coping skills, medication adherence, and suicide prevention. The program closes with hands-on patient interactions in several area mental health facilities.
