Sixth grade students from three local schools in Defiance, Ohio took part in a day of science that included a guided tour of the Phosphorus Optimal Wetland Demonstration Project by USACE Buffalo District project manager Tim Noon and Chad Toussant of the U.S. Geological Survey on Sept. 22, 2023. Tim and Chad spoke to the students about the functions and purpose of the project as it works to improve the understanding of how nutrients like Phosphorus can be retained on the land scape, instead of in Great Lakes water where they can contribute to Harmful Algal Bloom development.
