231003-N-GR655-0019 GROTON, Conn. (October 3, 2023) – The future USS Hyman G. Rickover (SSN 795) - currently a pre-commissioning unit (PCU) completing acceptance trials from shipbuilder Electric Boat - transits the Thames River as it prepares to arrive for the first time to Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut on October 3, 2023. SSN 795, the second U.S. Navy submarine to commemorate the “father of the nuclear Navy” Adm. Hyman G. Rickover, is scheduled to commission during a ceremony in Groton on October 14, 2023. Rickover and crew operate under Submarine Squadron (SUBRON) FOUR, whose primary mission is to provide attack submarines that are ready, willing, and able to meet the unique challenges of undersea combat and deployed operations in unforgiving environments across the globe.
