U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Andrew Edwards, the assistant logistics officer of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, points out the extract location to U.S. Department of State personnel during an evacuation control center site survey as part of a Joint Interagency Intergovernmental and Multinational Exercise (JIIMEX), at Naha Military Port, Okinawa, Japan, Oct. 3, 2023. The ECC site survey provided a plan for processing U.S. civilians living in a simulated nation for processing and evacuation in response to potential embassy crisis. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
