ARLINGTON, Va. (Oct. 13, 2023) Allison Finkelstein, senior historian at Arlington National Cemetery, right, narrates during a walking tour tracing the origins, development, and significance of the “Sacred 20” and the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps at Arlington National Cemetery on Oct. 13, 2023. The “Sacred 20” were the first group of women to be commissioned as nurses in the Navy and were the founding members of the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps, as well as some of the first women to serve as uniformed officers in the Navy as a whole. The tour served to honor the “Sacred 20’s” legacy, as well as the 248th birthday of the Navy. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Jonathan Nelson)
