This #FortRileyFriday we look at one of the first permanent buildings constructed on Marshall Army Airfield.
In 1934, 26 new quarters were built on #FortRiley with 12 of those constructed at the airfield. Among them was present-day building 760, a two-story 28-man barracks to house Air Corps NCOs and cooks.
Like the other quarters built that year building 760 was constructed of
brick and faced with buff-colored brick to match the hangar constructed in
1932 (Hangar 741) that sits across the street.
By 1942, the building underwent minor alterations in its conversion to
office space and an exchange annex.
In 1965, it was converted to a battalion headquarters. Sometime after that
building 760 was abandoned though it did receive a new roof in the not-too-distant past. Today, Fort Riley is in the process of renovating building 760 so it may again serve as a troop office facility.
While adding force protection features and upgrading heating and cooling
systems, efforts are being made to retain the historic features of the facility.
