Last week we told you how Captain George E. Pond arrived at #FortRiley as the Post Quartermaster in 1885 and proceeded to make improvements to the existing #Army standard duplex plan. Pond's updated plan was then adopted as the new standard duplex plan.
Pond went on to develop the duplex form even further. He introduced a new duplex design to Fort Riley (and to Army construction) when another group of double officers quarters, represented by Quarters 15 and 17 on Forsyth Avenue, was constructed in 1889. This new duplex, featuring an added four-bay projecting gable to the front, was later issued as Quartermaster Standard Plan No. 28 in 1891.
