U.S. Coast Guard meets with Republic of Korea navy counterparts

Marking a significant moment in the enduring friendship and alliance between the United States and the Republic of Korea, Cmdr. Greg Sickels, deputy commander of U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam, and Lt. Richard Min, local U.S. Coast Guard chaplain, met with Capt. Soonkun Oh, defense attaché, and Yoon Ho Jang, consul, prior to the departure of the ROK navy's Dokdo-class amphibious assault ship, Dokdo (LPH-6111), and the Joint Cruise Training Task Group, on Nov. 16, 2023. This visit to Guam is part of the annual training for hundreds of ROK officer cadets, underscoring our shared commitment to security and stability in the region. Senior U.S. military leaders convened at US Naval Base Guam for a welcome reception, where they met with ROK navy Rear Adm. Young-Su Kim, the task group commander, and other naval dignitaries. These interactions reinforce mutual dedication to peace and prosperity in Oceania and beyond. (U.S. Coast Guard photo by Chief Warrant Officer Sara Muir)
