U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Climineda Charles, a training non-commissioned officer with the U.S. Embassy in Colombia, stands at attention during the 248th Marine Corps Birthday Ball ceremony in Bogota, Colombia, Nov. 18, 2023. The ceremony consisted of speeches by guest speakers, the marching of the colors, a cake-cutting, and the reading of the birthday message. Guest speakers were U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. John Kelliher, Commanding General, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve, and Mr. Francisco Palmieri, ambassador of the United States to Colombia. Local political and military leaders attended the ceremony, strengthening partnerships while celebrating the birthday of the Corps and building camaraderie together. The Marine Corps birthday ceremony honors the history, legacy and traditions passed down from generation to generation since the founding of the Corps on Nov. 10, 1775.
