An Airman from the 311th Aircraft Maintanence Unit explains various parts of the F-16 Viper exhaust to a child at an afterburner operation at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, Nov. 16, 2023. Afterburner operation occurs when raw jet fuel is injected into the engine augmenter, resulting in a long cone of fire out of the exhaust and generating twenty-four thousand pounds of thrust propelling the airframe.
