U.S. Space Force Col. Mark Shoemaker, Space Launch Delta 30 commander, and Levi Zavalla, Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Culture Department community language teacher, unveil the newly named Vandenberg street sign during the Sign Naming Ceremony at Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif., Nov. 30, 2023. The sign, named “ma kiyušpakmu’ a mexme’y”, means “our gathering place for juncus” in the Samala Chumash language eternalizing the basket weaving tradition and is a dedicated celebration of the 53-year relationship shared between the Chumash and Vandenberg.
