U.S. Marine veteran Wayne Frater pays respects to the National Ensign during the singing of the Star-Spangled Banner at the annual Mt. Soledad Veteran’s Day Ceremony, La Jolla, California, Nov. 11, 2023. Frater is the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial Veteran of the Year, who served honorably in the Marine Corps from Oct. 17, 1965 to Oct. 18, 1968. He was awarded this title after completing more than 2,000 volunteer hours with the Mt. Soledad Memorial Association.
