U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. David Bellon, commander of Marine Forces South, and Contra-almirante (Brazilian marine corps brigadier general) Luis Manuel Campos Mello, commander of the Navy Special Operations Command, discuss the value amphibious forces provide the special operations community during the 4th Brazilian Marine Corps Amphibious Symposium in Rio de Janeiro, Nov. 27, 2023. This served as an opportunity for worldwide marine corps and naval infantry leaders to collaborate, develop trust, and expand maritime training. The U.S. Marine Corps and Brazilian marine corps have a long-standing mutually beneficial relationship in which we cooperate to maintain peace and security in the western hemisphere. The Brazilian Marine Corps hosts this amphibious symposium every eight years as a forum to exchange ideas and foster camaraderie among marine corps and naval infantry around the world. Bellon is a native of St. Louis, Missouri. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Trystan Taft)
