Sergeant Thaddeus Herber, a Marine serving with 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, shakes the hand of Maj. Gen. Ronald Bailey, the commanding general of 1st Marine Division, after being awarded the Bronze Star with combat distinguishing device here, Jan. 22, 2013. Herber, a native of New Braunfels, Texas, deployed with the battalion in 2011 and was awarded for his heroism during a firefight in Afghanistan.
